Ana Maria Mariani’s work is a vibrant fusion of her heritage and life experiences, drawing inspiration from the lush landscapes of southern Venezuela and the contrasting terrains of southern Italy. Born to Italian immigrant parents, her childhood was marked by the interplay of vibrant colors and rich textures, elements that define her art today.
Her journey as an artist began after completing her law degree, transitioning into painting, sculpture, and photography. Moves to Miami in 2002 and Santiago, Chile, in 2008 deepened her artistic perspective, as the cultural contrasts mirrored the duality of her upbringing. In Chile, Mariani discovered a passion for wood and textile sculptures, often inspired by tree limbs reminiscent of her youth and enriched with fibers reflecting the region’s artisanal traditions. Influenced by Sheila Hicks, her tactile creations are both evocative and deeply personal.
Mariani’s paintings are equally compelling, blending vibrant colors and intricate textures on canvas and wood. Her work, a celebration of nature’s forms and her cultural roots, has found homes in private collections across the United States, Europe, and Latin America. Now based in Winter Park, Florida, she continues to explore new dimensions in her artistry, infusing each piece with her signature interplay of color, texture, and memory.
